Two years ago, Mind The Music posted this article about up-and-coming Brisbane music festival, Red Deer. Raving about the natural amphitheater, low ticket prices, broad cross-section of music and, of course, the fact that it’s Brisbane only BYO camping and music festival, I now need to take this opportunity to publicly apologise to anyone who was excited for the event in 2014.
2014 saw Red Deer take a forced one year hiatus due to lengthy council applications which would ultimately ensure the festival’s longevity. But the wait is over, and we are excited to announce the return of Red Deer to the Queensland music calendar!
Located in the beautifully rugged D’Aguilar Range just north of Brisbane, Red Deer is an independent boutique festival committed to offering local bands and artists the platform to perform in an intimate and alternative environment. The festival boasts two stages, overnight camping, a series of cultural groups and arts workshops, the newly added Jungle Bar, a frisbee tournament, and an array of food vendors and market stalls… and with tickets starting at just $79, it’s pretty much an investment. Did we mention it’s BYO booze and couches?!
Held over the October long weekend, the festival will be headlined by ‘90s punk legends Frenzal Rhomb, Sydney’s Andy Bull, and our New Zealand neighbours, Salmonella Dub Soundsystem. An eclectic array of local Brisbane talent will also be taking to the stages including Hey Geronimo, Ayla, WAAX, Cheap Fakes, and many more. Tickets are selling out fast so get in quick!
