Outkast heading to Splendour 2014
After reforming for two performances at Coachella (one stellar, one…not so stellar), hip-hop duo Outkast prematurely revealed that they will be headlining Splendour in the Grass 2014. The group’s website was updated last week to include the well known Australian festival.
It looks like their Australian stop over is part of the promised festival tour for 2014. Several other acts have been rumoured to play at Splendour – all of which will be confirmed or laid to rest when the promoters announce the lineup on Wednesday April 23.
TLC to tour Australia
For the first time ever, 90s pop legends TLC will be touring Australia this June. The remaining two members have not released an original album since 2002 – the same year as the unexpected death of bandmate Lisa Lopez. The duo have revealed a new album is in progress, although a release date is still unknown. Nonetheless it is expected that Australian fans will be treated to new material as well as the old classics. Tickets are available on Thursday April 24 at 9am.
The tour dates are:
Friday June 6: Enmore Theatre, Sydney
Saturday June 7: Eatons Hill Hotel, Brisbane
Wednesday June 11: Palais Theatre, Melbourne
Friday June 13: Metro City, Perth
Record Store Day returns
Saturday April 19 saw the return of the annual Record Store Day, with a huge range of exclusive vinyls up for grabs for collectors. Despite the worries that the vision behind Record Store Day is beginning to be subverted by the major labels and larger indie distributors, record stores no doubt welcome the sales, and the public awareness of the adverse effects of the continuous plummet in physical music sales.

Mastodon take the “High Road”
American rockers Mastodon have given fans a taste of their upcoming LP with their latest single “High Road”. The album, Once More Round The Sun, is expected to be release in June 2014, with frontman Troy Sanders hoping that any extra material cut from this album will appear in an EP towards the end of the year.
Malcolm Young takes break from AC/DC
The ever popular rock band AC/DC have revealed that guitarist Malcolm Young is too ill to perform, and is taking a break from playing with the band. It is unclear what sort of affliction is troubling the 63 year old, but he may never be well enough to take to the stage again.
Sigur Ros play the Game of Thrones
Following in the footsteps of Coldplay‘s drummer Will Champion, Sigur Ros appeared on HBO’s Game Of Thrones in a cameo during last week’s episode. Much like Coldplay, the Icelandic band performed a rendition of ‘The Rains Of Castamere” at a special wedding – although it seems King Joffrey is not a big fan of the three musicians.
Both were beaten by Snow Patrol‘s Gary Lightbody, who appeared as a non-speaking soldier in an earlier episode. Here’s to seeing Pharrell cameo as a Dornish minstrel someday.
