Wolfmother’s new crown
In what is rapidly becoming an annoying new fad, Aussie band Wolfmother released a new album this week without so much as a peep beforehand. The band, who’ve been on and off more than Ross and Rachel, presented the somewhat arrogantly titled New Crown – whilst bragging about the huge success of the album despite the lack of marketing.
Seemingly they’ve forgotten that when you’ve got a big enough name, the marketing machine will kick in anyway. Thanks internet. Nonetheless, Wolfmother have lost none of that distinctive retro rock sound that leaves your skin tingling – check it out below:
First Soulfest lineup released
Soulfest, billed by its organisers as “Australia’s first annual neo soul, jazz and hip hop festival,” has revealed a decadent musical lineup for its inaugural year. The festival also promises to feature local artists, alongside amazing soul food and the ability to see every artist on the lineup.
Frontman of GWAR passes away at 50
Interstellar thrash metal band GWAR sadly lost their frontman this week, after 30 years with the group in it’s various incarnations. Dave Brockie, who was known amongst fans by his stage name Oderus Urungus, passed away at just 50 years old, in a possible drug related incident.
Gwar had recently toured Australia as part of Soundwave Festival, generating controversy for decapitating a Tony Abbott effigy onstage. It’s as yet unknown about the future of GWAR, however it seems the GWAR-B-Q will go ahead as a tribute to Brockie.
The Black Keys announce new album
Stalwart guardians of rock, The Black Keys have revealed that their next album Turn Blue will be out in May 2014. Judging by the name, we expect the band are hoping to have exclusive rights to the soundtrack of the next Smurfs movie. Check out the brand new single “Fever” and see how quickly it gets stuck in your head.

Velociraptor returns with “Ramona”
Very few bands can stir up pride in Brisbane like Velociraptor do. Led by heady-on-life frontman Jeremy Neale, the energetic garage rock group seem to be made up of half the musicians in Brisbane. Perhaps that explains their lengthy absence – the catering bills alone would be astronomical. But here they are again with their catchy new tune “Ramona”, and a single tour no less – coming your way this April. Get pumped!
