The thrash/metal/pop duo DZ Deathrays is made up of Brisbane boys Shane Parsons and Simon Ridley. They have been working hard over the last two years since releasing their ARIA award winning debut LP Bloodstreams in early 2012. In the last 18 months the band has toured with internationally acclaimed acts such as; Crystal Castles, Foo Fighters, Sleigh Bells and Cerebral Ballzy throughout Canada, the UK and the USA. DZ Deathrays have also performed at some of Australia’s largest music festivals including; Laneway Festival, Falls Music and Arts Festival and Splendour in the Grass. These are just some of the band’s achievements and with the expected release of their Sophomore LP in the first half of 2014, as well as performing at Big Day Out 2014 alongside acts such as Blur, Arcade Fire and Pearl Jam, you can only imagine what next year has in store for the DZ Deathrays boys.

The release of the single ‘Northern Lights’ is a teaser for the forthcoming LP and the track accurately captures the unique, but well known, qualities of the Brisbane two-piece act. Fans and critics can be reassured that this new single showcases the attributes of DZ Deathrays that we all know and love, like their signature guitar sound. Though the track has a different melodic contour to what we would usually hear from the duo, and builds to an epic sing-a-long chorus. DZ Deathrays have come a long way since performing at house parties in Queensland a few years back, and ‘Northern Lights’ is another thrilling new turn for the Brisbane act.

The guys have settled down in Australia for the next few months to finish recording their second album and to perform at Big Day Out 2014. Next year sees DZ Deathrays heading back to the UK and North America to promote their music worldwide. If you want to catch them performing live while they are back home you can check them out at one of the Big Day Out venues around Australia from January 17th to February 2nd 2014.
