Last week it was announced that Fuzzy Touring has canned Parklife festival in light of a better, but not necessarily bigger, national festival (or party). Listen Out is being marketed as “Party redefined” – promising more t-shirts, less steroids and more culture. Australia’s first IDM (Intelligent Dance Music if you didn’t already know) party has produced a pretty great lineup. It has been described as “the antidote to many of the things you don’t like about big music festivals”. I’m just hoping that the crowd of ‘right people’ doesn’t mean muscle men and big boob-ied girls dressed as hipsters.
After hearing word that Disclosure were heading Down Under everyone got a little excited and lucky for us, the British house music duo are headlining. Next up is Azealia Banks however, for me TNGHT completely supersedes her. One half Hudson Mohawke and the other Lunice, the duo will be performing their first ever Australian shows. Their bass banger ‘Higher Ground’ will undoubtedly go off.
Duke Dumont will also be joining the lineup with his infectious hit ‘Need You 100%’, which peaked at #1 in the UK charts. AlunaGeorge will hopefully join their buddies Disclosure on stage for a live collaboration of ‘White Noise’ but needless to say, they’ll be holding their own on stage with singles from their upcoming album, set for release in July.
Electronic master Miguel Campbel is bringing the funk and disco-house vibes just the way I like it. Touch Sensitive (AKA Michael Di Francesco from Van She) will be making an appearance and apparently unveiling some new stuff, including his new track ‘Pizza Guy’ which has some pretty awesome celebrity/musician cameos. Don’t forget Sydney-siders Rufus, who are set to drop their highly anticipated new album in August leading up to the event. ‘Take Me’ is a killer hit and I can’t wait to see it performed live.
The full Listen Out lineup is pretty stellar:
