Personally, Australia Day is my favourite holiday of the year. Call me a bogan if you wish but I there’s something ingenious about giving the whole population a day off to show (or fake) patriotism by doing what we Aussies do best – drinking, sun baking, swimming, having a good old fashioned BBQ and last but very not least, listen to the Triple J Hottest 100 Countdown.
One might say it’s un-Australian not to vote in the Triple J Hottest 100. You can guarantee that no matter where I am in the world on Australia day, I will find a way to live stream this wonderful program. Last year it was 1am in Leeds, England. So here’s my vote. (I only voted for 9)
Flight Facilities – Clair De Lune
Undoubtedly my favourite song of the year, and possibly of my lifetime. As you can read here – I have already sung praises about this musical masterpiece.
Disclosure – Latch
I love Disclosure. Simple as that! All of their tracks are amazing but this one definitely got the most airplay. It’s more upbeat and mainstream than most of their house tracks which is great, except for when I’m at a festival purely to see them and a ‘teeny-bopper’ girl stands in front of me complaining about how boring their set is and says, “When are they going to play Latch”. Obviously last, dumb-arse. End rant.
Frank Ocean – Lost
Lost is one of those songs I can listen to on repeat and never get sick of and Channel Orange was definitely one of my favourite albums of 2012.
Flume – On Top
One of the most talked about albums of 2012. This track is my favourite off the album and I can happily say that it’s the best cleaning song… ever.
Oh Mercy – My Man
It was love at first listen. I couldn’t understand why a male band would sing such a song, which makes me love it even more.
The Rubens – The Best We Got
Unearthed artist of the year The Rubens, absolutely killed it with their self-titled debut album. Although I love ‘My Gun’ I think that ‘The Best We Got’ is a much better song.
Mumford and Sons – Lover of the Light
I doubt this will be many people’s pick but I love it and the feeling I get when I listen to this beautifully uplifting track.
Hot Chip – How Do You Do
After seeing these guys play at Summafieldayze there was no way I couldn’t include them in my top pick. I was a big fan before and after seeing them live, they’re the coolest guys out.
Madeon – Finale
For me, this song is incredibly uplifting. Is that weird? Also, Madeon is only like 18 – kudos for absolutely nailing this track!
So what do you think? Let me know!
